METZELER CALLS FOR ENTRIES TO ITS FIRST-EVER
V-TWIN CUSTOM BIKE CONTEST
Event To Be Held At Sturgis; Grand Prize Winner And Bike Will Win
Trip To International Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy
(Rome, GA) Metzeler tires has announced its first-ever custom bike contest for V-twins. Scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2003 in 'The Journey Museum' parking lot in Rapid City, SD during the annual Sturgis Rally, the contest will feature four classes of bikes. And if you were looking for a good reason to enter yours, check out the Grand Prize, to be chosen from the four Class winners: Metzeler will send the Grand Prize-winning bike and its owner on an all-expense-paid trip to Milan, Italy, September 16-21 where the winning bike will be displayed at the International Motorcycle Show, the largest show in the world.
Three of the contest's four classes are devoted to bikes that utilize one of Metzeler's three stages of upgrades: Stage One, Stage Two, and Stage Three. The fourth class is Unlimited and is open only to professional builders; pro builders are not permitted in the other classes. Stated simply, Stage One bikes must retain most of the OE parts and wheel sizes; Stage Two allows larger-size tires and wheels but no frame, fork, or swingarm modifications. And Stage Three entrants are permitted to have custom-size wheels, as well as fork and swingarm modifications, but the stock frame must be maintained. Of course, each entrant bike must be equipped with Metzeler tires mounted front and rear.
Alberto Warburg, Trade and Marketing Manager for Metzeler's North American operation in Rome, GA, said the objectives of the contest are to promote our three stages of upgrade. We want to show average riders how easy it is to understand the different stages and to build a beautiful, safe custom bike in any one of them. Warburg said the multiple Stages idea grew out of the fact that Metzeler has so many sizes of V-twin tires - over 52 sizes in its ME880 model alone that they needed a simple way to tell consumers how and where to use them. Our ME880 tire is available in everything from simple OE-replacement upgrades to full-on custom radials like our new 280, the world's largest motorcycle tire.
Metzeler's Upgrade Stages are featured prominently in educational displays on the newly-launched Metzeler Event Truck that will be at Americade, Laconia, Honda Hoot, Sturgis the H-D 100th Anniversary, Reno, Myrtle Beach, and Biketoberfest. The Stages are also the subject of a special, full-color V-Twin tire brochure available free at Metzeler dealers.
