Description: Billy Lane’s L.A. Woman is a special machine and not simply because she is so rare (only 31 were built from 1932-1935). Speedway bikes, like the board track racers which preceded them, are the original skinny bikes. They were built to be light in weight, nimble in handling and narrow in profile to eliminate wind drag. Albert Crocker & Paul Bigsby built Crocker Speedway machines in Los Angeles, as an American answer to the dominant British J.A.P. speedway racers. Photographed by Michael Lichter in Sturgis, SD.
