Despite the shortened TROG due to the crazy tidal surge (Sunday racing cancelled) and the all day drizzle Saturday, The Race of Gentlemen in Pismo Beach, California was an amazing event. The weather certainly made it both challenging and interesting for the racers (and photographers)! Everything was wet through and through, but spirits were never dampened. Everyone just dug their heels in that much more.
It was nearly impossible to keep my lenses dry, and then before the end of the day, I was truly caught off guard as you can see in this great photo by the German photographer Götz Göppert (at the end of the images here). Thank you Götz for sharing this photo with me. I worked wonders with some makeup brushes and hair dryer, but I knew my gear would need some extra attention so I drove 4 hours straight Monday morning to Nikon’s repair facility in LA before heading back to the airport. In case you are wondering - the cleaning bill is $1,900. YIKES!!!
